Hi! Just wanted to ask why a lot of people don’t seem to like Spencer. i personally am rooting for him and he’s one of the people I want to win. I think he has and is playing a really great game. I always found he can make strategic plays when needed and he Can be a threat in challenges. he’s doing good socially as well, this season and in Cagayan.

Hi! Oh boy this is a hard question to answer…okay so as far as I know there are two reasons one of which is because he’s “a pasty ass white boy”. Since that argument has no real weight, I’ll move on to the next, actually arguable reason.

A lot of people complain that Spencer does nothing to save himself in Cambodia. They say that his fate is constantly in the hands of others who choose to save him, which isn’t wrong. But here’s the thing, the REASON that the others choose to save Spencer when it comes down to him and someone else, is because he has been making an effort to connect with the other players on a more personal level. It’s working. The effort he’s putting in to form connections is the reason he’s been saved two or three times now when it’s come down to him and someone else, and I would argue that that’s a pretty commendable accomplishment.

I agree that he can make strategic moves but honestly, Spencer’s never really in a position of power to make moves. He doesn’t ever really have opportunities to execute. A lot of Survivor has to do with luck to be honest, and kid does not have it!

Personally, I love Spencer because he’s a great underdog to root for. First of all he’s a superfan! But also he is so determined and watching him in Cagayan was one of my favorite things about that season. I think he has a lot going for him such as his social game and also like you said, he is a challenge threat for sure!

Sorry for rambling lol! I just have a lot to say about Spencer…but anyway, that’s how I see it. I think people discredit him a lot more than they should and for wrong reasons, but I’ll always root for him because honestly he plays a good game, it’s just different because he’s always struggling to stay alive.

I just want to say that first, I absolutely agree with everything you said and you articulated exactly what I have been thinking this whole season. Also, to the anon, Spencer does actually have a lot of fans. He’s arguably one of the most well-liked players among the casual viewers and fans on other boards/sites. However, on tumblr, if you’re a white male, you are automatically discredited and everything you do is scrutinized. For example, Abi and Ciera can get away with having poor attitudes and bad game play. In fact, around here, they’re loved for it. If Spencer was playing and acting the way that they are, he would be receiving all kinds of hate.

Bottom line, Spencer is a young, privileged white male who also happens to be well liked by Jeff and the producers (as far as we know). That right there is enough for people on this lovely site to hate him. It doesn’t matter how good of a game he is playing or how determined he is. It is unfortunate and beyond ridiculous. But hey, that’s tumblr for you.
