[…] I keep the few items I had on me when I was lifted from the arena. My mockingjay pin. Peeta’s token, the gold locket with photos of my mother and Prim and Gale inside. A silver parachute that holds a spile for tapping trees, and the pearl Peeta gave me a few hours before I blew out the force field. […]

I feel around for the parachute and slide my fingers inside until they close around the pearl. I sit back on my bed cross-legged and find myself rubbing the smooth iridescent surface of the pearl back and forth against my lips. For some reason, it’s soothing. A cool kiss from the giver himself.

Katniss: I’m never going to have kids. I’ve made this choice because I don’t want them to be subjected to the reaping or the hunger games.
Katniss: I have genuine feelings for Peeta, but if I’m going to be with anyone, it has to be my choice. I can’t be truly happy as long as the capitol is making my romantic choices for me.
THG series: [capitol is brought down, hunger games abolished]
Katniss: The conditions under which I made my previous choices have changed! I guess it’s time to revisit them, since like most people my thoughts and opinions are subject to change in response to the circumstances in which they are formed
Katniss: [starts a relationship with Peeta now that she’s no longer being coerced, ends up having two children now that she doesn’t have to worry about them being subjected to the hunger games]
Tumblr: I can’t believe Peeta forced her to have kids

At a few minutes before four, Peeta turns to me again. “Your favorite colour … it’s green?” “That’s right.” Then I think of something to add. “And yours is orange.”“Orange?” He seems unconvinced.” Not bright orange. But soft. Like the sunset,” I say. “At least, that’s what you told me once.” “Oh.” He closes his eyes briefly, maybe trying to conjure up that sunset, then nods his head. “Thank you.” But more words tumble out. “You’re a painter. You’re a baker. You like to sleep with the windows open. You never take sugar in your tea. And you always double-knot your shoelaces.“ Then I dive into my tent before I do something stupid like cry.
